My hats off to the incredible plastic surgeons that are able to help women make miraculous transformations through Facelifts. Lifting the jowls, cheeks and loose skin on the neck. This treatment gives years back to many clients who have experienced it. In 2020 alone, over 234,000 people got facelifts to tighten up their faces. Maybe you are considering the procedure, but what about scarring?
I'm a scar camouflage tattoo artist working in Dallas and Austin Texas. And I am the last stop on your journey to perfecting your results after a Facelift procedure.
Here's what you can expect when it comes to facelift scars.
Facelift Scars Are Hidden in Your Hairline
Thankfully, modern facelifts don't give you big, obvious scars. Gone are the days of getting huge incisions that wrap all the way around your ears and head.
These days, your surgeon will make small cuts that start at your temples in the hairline. Then they'll go around the front of your ears and end in the lower scalp. Pretty sneaky, right?
When your hair is down, you'd have to part it and hunt to see evidence of any scars around your ears. And who's inspecting your hairline that closely?
They Look Worse Before They Look Better
Just like any wounds, your incisions will go through a healing process. I'm not going to lie to you, your scars won't look perfect when the bandages first come off.
For the first 6 weeks or so, the scars might appear slightly red or thick. And your face will be swollen, which makes everything look worse.
But around 6 months later? That's when the redness fades, the swelling goes down, and your scars are much thinner and lighter.
We recommend 6 months to a year for total healing, and at that point you can consider a camouflage tattoo for any scarring that is still visible. Check out this beautiful scar cover up from artist Jazzie Craig at Halo Skin and Scar in Dallas.

Things to Keep In Mind
To help your scars fade into oblivion, be sure to:
Use sunscreen and wear a hat. Sun exposure makes scars darker.
Don't smoke! Smoking limits the blood supply your skin needs to heal.
Gently massage scars and apply ointments as directed. This keeps them smooth and flat.
Ask your surgeon about silicone sheets. Silicone is the gold standard for making scars less visible.
